How to Spend Money Efficiently In Evony

No matter what your spending budget is for this game, ultimately everyone wants to get the most bang for their buck. While for some that means spending thousands, others might be content with spending little to no money. This guide doesn't quite get you down to zero spending but we'll take you from $5 a week weekend warrior to whale status and show you tips to maximize your budget.

Low, Medium, or Omega Whale Spending?

No matter what your spending budget is for this game, ultimately everyone wants to get the most bang for their buck. While for some that means spending thousands, others might be content with spending little to no money.

This guide doesn't quite get you down to zero spending but we'll take you from $5 a week weekend warrior to whale status and show you tips to maximize your budget.

Why Spend?

Spending in Evony should be done ONLY to get one of two things:
  • Stamina
  • Pay-to-win buffs (more on that below)

Spending should NEVER be for the following:
  • RSS
  • Speed-ups
  • Gold
  • Non-buff adding castle decorations

Best Stamina Pack (Everyone, Especially Low Coiners)

If you're against spending but don't want to fall too far behind, then during the Monster Kill Monarch Event make sure to pick up the pack below. It's available for certain during SVS weeks and has a high chance of showing up during non-SVS weeks.

Generally, you'll have a double-up coupon available when this pack is released resulting in 20,000 stamina for $5. With stamina, you can get every single other resource in the game other than coining exclusive buffs.

Pay-to-Win ONLY Buff Purchases

Now that we've gotten the low coiner purchase out of the way, let's take a look at the multitude of potential pay-to-win buffs you could buy as a medium-to-high coiner.

Disclaimer: Play responsibly and within your budget.
  • Historic General Events (Sometimes Buy)
    • Evony often has events that specifically highlight a single general and makes it very easy to get one particular general through coining. If it's a duty general like Ashoka then it's potentially worth it but generally, any general they release here will get outgunned by someone else in the future.
  • Super Monthly Card (Decent Buy)
    • Straight 10% to Attack, HP, and Defense along with daily rewards
    • This is the definition of a pay-to-win buff and despite not being substantial you're guaranteed to get exactly what's advertised without a luck factor.
  • Trial of Knights (Mediocre Buy)
    • Similar to the Historic General Events, this event could potentially be good if there's a special duty general in the pool that you've been eyeing. However, the pack gives no stamina and is a luck-based roulette.
    • Ashoka was released only through this event at one point but eventually got her own specific general event.
  • Civilization Gear (Sometimes Buy)
    • Available from King's Party and running somewhere between $200 for the small gear and $2000 for the big gear depending on the week, Civilization Gear separates coiners and non-coiners to a huge degree.
    • Priority Purchases: Abbas Bracers and Koryo Bracers - Both available from the smaller selection pack, these two are the only ring slots in the game that provide the highest siege attack range bonus.
    • $2000 Priority Purchases: Plantagenet Bow and Koryo Bow - Both available from the larger selection pack, these will be your main attack and defensive weapons. In general, weapons are better value for the same cost.
  • Historic City Event (Red) (Whales Only)
    • Depending on the week and what Evony continent you're on, these can run you upwards of $4,000 to $7,000. Each unique city can only be owned once per castle, but many of them offer alliance-wide buffs that vary from useless to quite good.
    • Beware that some Historic Cities actually seem a little worse than a gold Japan so your mileage may vary.
  • Astrolabe (Bad Value)
    • This event is borderline terrible and often the main prize is a civilization gear currently out of cycle in other events in the game.
    • The odds of getting what you want are generally low and luck-based. Only pick up these packs if you have cash to burn, really want the prizes, and really want them right now.
  • King's Party (Sometimes Buy)
    • The value of a King's Party is very varied but timing this purchase can really affect how much bang for your buck you get. If you plan on spending over the first civilization gear selection box tier ($200ish) , it's often better to just save up and spend it all at once to complete the final tier ($2,000ish).
    • Final tiers generally give a special duty general, a special castle decoration with buffs, or both.
    • Pick a week that has prizes that you really want before spending a full garden unless you're just buying the full garden every week anyway. If this is the case, then make sure you're spending on packs with a high bonus percentage (other than the monster kill pack).

Pay-for-Convenience Purchases

The purchases below are pay-for-convenience and you can get nearly everything the packs give somewhere else. I would recommend only buying high stamina packs or discounted premium generals if you really need it. I've also highlighted ones where you could get additional pay-to-win buffs (sooner).
  • Dawn of Civilization
    • This pack generally offers some neat decorations and a random general in a select pool at the end. If you want one of the generals in the pool it's a decent purchase but otherwise unnecessary.
  • Ymir Day Pack
    • Great pack for rally starters get marches out faster but otherwise not particularly special. The double drop can be decent if you're low VIP or don't have good double drop general development.
  • Monarch Event Packs
    • Only the monster kill pack is worth purchasing, everything else is overpriced
  • Super Package Sale
    • Decent pricing for premium generals via the lucky box
  • Limited Offer Sale
    • Can be good for picking up premium generals from the lucky boxes and cheap Source of Life from the 7-day pack if needed
  • Blazons (Buffs!)
    • Good source of Blazons for the price if it's something you want to get sooner than later, otherwise grinding them weekly will eventually net you a decent amount of Blazons
  • Helen's Visit (Buffs!)
    • Similar to Blazons you could jack up your Helen level now or just slowly build her
  • Historic City Searching
    • A nice bonus to the packs you're already buying should you manage to win a sub-city, but there's no specific timing or pack for this. Another reason to buy a big garden instead of a few medium-sized gardens though if you're missing sub-cities.
  • RSS, Gold, Speedup Packs
    • These packs are generally not good and not worth purchasing. Some of the Continent 4 servers have reported very cheap RSS packs that may be worth it depending on your circumstances but otherwise not very cost-efficient.
  • Battle of Chalons
    • Good pack for healing speedups but not particularly useful in any way
  • Dragon Pack/City Development Pack/RSS Pack
    • Some activities you do will trigger special packs to pop up. These packs are often not a total rip-off but still very much pay for convenience and don't give you anything you wouldn't get otherwise somewhere else, usually for free.

Got a new money-making scheme from Evony that isn't mentioned above or disagree with how good a pack is? Comment below!
