Gems are a universal currency that can be used in any aspect of the game to get resources and powerful items faster and stronger. On the other hand, there are only two things in the game that you NEED to spend gems on and can't get any other way. Those two are:

What's the Smartest Place to Spend Gems?

Gems are a universal currency that can be used in any aspect of the game to get resources and powerful items faster and stronger. On the other hand, there are only two things in the game that you NEED to spend gems on and can't get any other way. Those two are:

• Unlocking Celtic Dragon from Pasture (300k gems)
• Cultivating generals above +300 in any stat (max +500)

Of course, there are also other good places to spend gems and naturally, bad places to spend gems. We've broken them down into a few segments below.

BEST GEM SPENDS

• Celtic Dragon - The #1 gem spend is at Pasture 26 to unlock the Celtic Dragon. For most players, this is their only ranged dragon, which is the most important PVP troop type in the game. Save 300k gems and pick one up as soon as possible.
• Cultivating generals above + 300 in any stat - After getting your generals to 5 stars, you can cultivate to the gold softcap of +300, but to get to +500 you need to use gems.
• Patrolling - For 30 gems, you can get either a level 1 or level 3 monarch gear on the wall. This is where you should spend the bulk of your gems after the two above.

GOOD GEM SPENDS

• Locking Refines - Eventually, you will need to refine your gear to get stronger. Locking your refines will be necessary to get well-crafted generals and dragons.
• Rolling Tavern (lvl 30+) - After you get your tavern to level 30, you will need Baibars and Queen Jindeok to accelerate your growth. Although you can get them without rolling, you'll need to be extremely lucky. 

OKAY GEM SPENDS

• Shrine Tributes (Under 15) - Tributes past the 15th costs 1500 gems apiece, but are cheaper before that point. Stockpiling tributes from alliance shop, then using them after spending 15 tributes in gems is a decent spend.
• 10x Stamina (Shop) - The first ten 50 point stamina from the gem shop costs 200 gems each, then scales up. Picking up 10 a day is a decent purchase.
• Feeding Dragons - Feeding dragons takes a lot of patience, but spending gems to refresh the items allows you to level them MUCH faster.
• Teleports/March Speeds/Arrest Warrants/Truce Warrants - You can get these from other places like events and Alliance Donations, but if you're playing a lot of PVP you'll likely run out of them faster than you can earn them. Using gems on these is not bad if you need them, particularly Truce Warrants.

BAD GEM SPENDS

• Construction Speeds - Generally speaking, speeding up construction with gems tends to be a very low return gem spend.
• Monarch Gear from shop - This is the fastest way to get monarch gear, but at 200 per piece is very very expensive compared to patrolling.
• Refining Stones from shop - 200 gems per refining stone is an absurd price and you should wait until you can clear event bosses.
• Gem Shop in General - The gem shop has pretty much anything you could possibly want to buy in the game. However, other than Stamina it's all poorly priced and hunting monsters with the stamina you buy will net you more resources in the long run.

How to Get More Gems?

The best places to get gems in order of potential highest to lowest are as follows:

• Packs (Spending real money)
• Server VS Server War (SVS)
• Battlefields
• Other events - Notably World Boss/Undead weekly
• Gaining Keep levels
