How to play Evony on PC
Are your thumbs tired of swiping? Want to use all the fingers of your hand? Try giving a computer version of Evony a try. You'll still need to go through the same account setup procedure but if your computer is powerful enough, the PC version is much faster and can give you a huge advantage while scouting!
Currently, there are two main ways to play Evony on the PC:
- Using a mobile game emulator such as Bluestacks or MEMU Play
- Using the official (beta) Evony PC version available via this link
We'll go over the different benefits below:
True PC Version of Evony
After visiting the PC version link available above (and here for you lazy folk), you'll be shown something like the page below:
After successfully downloading it Windows Defender may also alert you to a potential non-recognized program. You may have to allow the program through your firewall which is always a bit dubious for these foreign companies, but given how much information they already have from you, probably a low risk for most users.
After successfully opening the program, you'll need to relink your account, which currently can only be done via a Facebook link.
Note: Whenever the game updates you will need to revisit the download page again to grab a new version.
Scouting on the PC Version of Evony
Besides being buttery smooth and super wide, another thing you might notice if you poke around is that if you resize the window to be wider than it is tall and continue going, you zoom further and further out until you get a screen that looks like the below, granting you massive real estate space for scouting to your heart's desire.
Advantages and Disadvantages to PC version of Evony
Advantages:
- Very fast and smooth;
- Large screen space; and
- Best scouting real estate
Disadvantages:
- Cannot turn on alliance war notifications when starting rallies;
- Need to revisit the page again to download new updates; and
- Only allows limited login methods.
Bluestacks vs Memu Evony (Emulator Mode)
If you want to use a native phone emulator you can also opt to use Bluestacks or Memu Play instead of the Evony app. This allows you to access the game much like you would on the phone but with many added functions such as using macros or adding hotkeys to different areas of your screen.
You will need to log-in using either Facebook or a Google account as no native emulator support for Apple IDs currently exists.
Scouting in Emulator Mode
Similar to scouting on the PC, elongating your game will allow you to see additional screen real estate which can be accomplished through a 3rd party screen rotation software.
Advantages and Disadvantages to Emulator of Evony
Advantages:
- Allows for macros and synchronizing instances;
- Quickly run multiple instances of Evony side by side;
- Links easily to existing Google accounts; and
- Capable of using hotkeys for different screen regions.
Disadvantages:
- Smaller window size and less easily adjusted;
- Slower than PC version; and
- 3rd party software and tends to contain advertisements.
Overall, both PC and emulator versions are very helpful when you don't want to constantly be on your phone.
